Dr. Oren Glikman
NLP, Agritech, Fintech and other novel applications of data science
CV
Dr. Glickman brings 20 years of industrial research experience alongside a deep academic background—a combination that allows him to translate complex theories into field-ready solutions. He holds degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and a PhD from Bar-Ilan University. Formerly the Scientific Manager of the Data Science Institute (DSI), he now leads government projects with the Ministries of Science, Agriculture, and Environmental Protection. He collaborates with prestigious institutions such as UPenn and the University of Texas.
Research
Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI for Sustainability and the Environment
To predict wildfires weeks in advance, computers must process thousands of environmental reports. To monitor crop quality, they must interpret complex agricultural imagery, and to map urban heat islands, they must integrate diverse data sources into a single, cohesive picture. The problem? Making sense of this massive, messy data—especially unstructured human language—is incredibly difficult. Dr. Oren Glickman bridges Natural Language Processing (NLP) and applied AI to solve this. He develops algorithms that teach machines to extract structured knowledge from free text and leads interdisciplinary machine learning projects to process visual and spatial data. By improving how Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI systems process information, his research turns raw data into powerful tools for environmental and agricultural resilience.
Core Research Areas:
NLP & Knowledge Extraction: Extracting data from text and optimizing Large Language Models (LLMs).
AI & Sustainability: Applying machine learning to precision agriculture and climate science.
Environmental Resilience: Algorithms for predicting extreme events and mapping urban temperatures.
Research Character:
Empirical & Applied - Developing algorithms and testing them against real-world environmental and textual Big Data.
Career Horizons:
Industry: Senior AI Research roles focusing on NLP and Data Science.
Public Sector & Government: Collaboration with national institutions and leading research centers (such as the Volcani Institute).
Academia: Publishing as first authors in top-tier conferences (e.g., EMNLP and NAACL).
